Toxic Chemicals in Cosmetics: An Unregulated "Wild West" Market
Of the 12,000 chemicals currently used by the cosmetics industry 80% are not tested for health impacts such as cancer or reproductive harm. Of the chemicals tested, some known carcinogens such as formaldehyde are allowed to be used in certain consumer care products for both adults and children. While this lack of regulation affects everyone, women are the most impacted because they use the majority of products (10-12 daily).
